活動簡介
Now in its 10th year, BigPicture encourages photographers from around the world to contribute their work to this competition that both celebrates and illustrates the rich diversity of life on Earth and inspires action to protect and conserve it through the power of imagery. Chaired by award-winning conservation photographer Suzi Eszterhas, BigPicture welcomes high-quality nature, wildlife and conservation images and is open to all photographers around the world. Enter your work for a chance to win cash prizes and be exhibited at the California Academy of Sciences.

BigPicture is open to all photographers worldwide, except employees, volunteers and Board Members of the Academy (as well as their sponsors) and the immediate families and individuals living in the same household as such employees, volunteers and Board Members. The Academy reserves the right to verify, in its sole judgment, entrant eligibility. Void where prohibited.

The BigPicture Photo Competition (“BPPC”) begins at 12:00 AM North American Pacific Standard Time (PST) on December 1, 2022, and closes at 11:59 PM PST on March 1, 2023.
The Academy anticipates notifying winners in June 2023.

Before submitting your entries, please ensure your photographs are technically compliant with the image editing guidelines below. Entrants are encouraged to think about the ethos of BPPC, and to document the natural world in a way that is both creative and truthful. Adjustments should always comply with the principles of BPPC.
FILE NAMING
Naming convention: category_title.jpg
Replace spaces with underscores
Example: WingedLife_Flamingos.jpg
Photo Story submissions should be numbered
Example: PhotoStory_Sanctuary_1.jpg, PhotoStory_Sanctuary_2.jpg
DO NOT include your name in any file names.
IMAGE CAPTIONING
Images should have caption information submitted with the following:
Description of the behavior pictured and the background story
The exact location
Species name, if scientifically noteworthy
If the subject is captive, restrained, deceased, or taxidermy, the photo caption must disclose that info, please include details.
Please note:
DO NOT include your name in the caption or on the image itself.
Keep intact any EXIF details (e.g. camera, lens, exposure etc).
IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS
Entries must be submitted as digital files uploaded through the BPPC entry platform. Scans of transparencies or negatives are also accepted. No allowance can or will be made for poor quality scans.
For judging purposes submitted images must meet the following qualifications:
Submitted as JPG or JPEG files in Adobe RGB
Images should be a minimum of 1920 px on the long edge, and a maximum of 3000 px
No borders, watermarks, or signatures are allowed. Your image will be immediately disqualified if these elements are included.
For proof of authenticity:
Original digital camera RAW files (e.g. CR2, NEF, ORF, etc.) will be requested if your image is selected as a winning image. Original raw files must be 12 megapixels or larger.
Original transparencies or negatives are acceptable.
DNG files are acceptable only if that is the native recording format of the camera.
Digital images captured as JPEG are allowed, providing the original un-retouched JPEG is available for inspection.
For printing in all media and for possible inclusion in an exhibition:
A full-res uncropped image (preferably TIFF) will be requested if your image is selected as a finalist or winner. This should be an 8-bit or higher file at 300 dpi.
If interpolation of an image is required for printing, it will be undertaken by the selected printer.

The judges are a panel of professional photographers and photo professionals who will judge the BPPC according to the criteria above. All decisions by the judges will be final and binding. Winners may be viewed June 2023 at bigpicturecompetition.org.

Photographs and photo essays will be judged on originality, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit pursuant to the following point scale:
Overall Impact: Up to 35 points
Evokes the diversity of life, inspires conservation, tells a cohesive story
Originality: Up to 30 points
Unique perspectives, rarely captured moments
Aesthetic Impact: Up to 20 points
Composition, lighting, framing, perspective, use of color, etc.
Technical Expertise: Up to 15 points
Sharp, exposure, depth of field, tonal range

活動獎勵
The Grand Prize winner will receive $5,000 for the best overall image in the 2023 BigPicture Natural World Photography Competition and be featured in the annual exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences. The first place winners of the seven official categories will each receive $1,000 in cash and also have their winning images featured in the annual exhibit. Up to 6 additional finalists will be awarded a certificate of recognition for each category, with the exception of the Photo Story category. The Photo Story category will have one first place awarded.
