A city must have its own characteristics, its own culture, its own features, its own brands … These comprehensive manifestations are to be reflected through a personalized logo. This is what we call a city logo.

In today’s urban developement trends, an increasing number of metropolises have become international exchange centers for business, finance, and culture. But each city has its unique history, culture, geography, and regional characteristics, so how to show the unique characteristics of the city and make it become a window for the world to know the city, which is particularly significant. In addition, a proper city logo not only can intuitively highlight the city’s cultural characteristics, break the barriers of communication, improve the city’s popularity, but also can reflect the city’s spiritual connotation and enhance people’s sense of belonging to the city.
Jiaxing city is located in the northeast of Zhejiang province, bordering Shanghai on the east, Suzhou on the north, Huzhou on the west, and Hangzhou on the south, with a total land area of 4,223 square kilometers and a total maritime area of 1,523 square kilometers. It has a registered population of 3.604 million and a permanent population of 4.726 million. Under its jurisdiction are two districts Nanhu and Xiuzhou, three county-level cities Pinghu, Haining and Tongxiang, and two counties Jiashan and Haiyan. Jiaxing city enjoys a flat terrain, balanced development and harmonious folk customs. Boasting a civilization history of more than 7,000 years, a written history of more than 2,500 years, and a city history of more than 1,700 years, it is the place where the “red boat” of Chinese revolution set sail, the national nuclear power industry started, and the Qianjiang tide surged.
Jiaxing is where the Chinese revolutionary red boat set sail. In July 1921, the first congress of the Communist Party of China was held in Shanghai. After being interrupted by the harassment of Shanghai’s French Concession, it was forced to be suspended and transferred to a painted boat in South Lake, Jiaxing. On this boat, the Party’s first program and resolution was deliberated and adopted, and the central bureau, the party’s leading body, was elected out. Since then, the communist party of China (CPC) was born. The red boat witnessed the great event in Chinese history and became the symbol of the start point of Chinese revolution.
Jiaxing is the cradle of Majiabang Culture. The Majiabang Cultural Site in the city has been more than 7000 years ago, which is a representative of the early Neolithic culture in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Taihu Basin. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, Jiaxing was the place where the state of Wu fought with the state of Yue. It was named as Youquan in Qin Dynasty, and then renamed as Jiaxing during the Three Kingdom Period. Among the 1,800 national-level celebrities recorded in the “Encyclopedia of China”, Jiaxing accounted for more than 80 people; Zhejiang Province had a total of more than 2,800 scholars in the Qing Dynasty, and Jiaxing had 695 people. In modern times, Wang Guowei, Xu Zhimo, Shen Dehong, FONG TSE KA, Shiing Shen Chern, Louis Cha and other great masters emerged and Jiaxing had 51 academicians.
Jiaxing is at the forefront of the integration into Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta. It follows the important instructions of “giving full play to geographical advantages, actively connecting with Shanghai, and actively participating in cooperation and exchanges in the Yangtze River Delta”. It always remembers its mission to be a “bridgehead” of Shanghai, and seizes significant opportunities, including geographical advantage of being at the intersection of the three major national strategies of “Belt and Road”, “Yangtze River Economic Belt” and “Yangtze River Delta regional integration development”, having been approved to fully integrate with the Shanghai demonstration zone, and promotion of four major developments with the strength of the whole province. In addition, the province continuously improves infrastructure, technology innovation, industry platform, public service, ecological construction.
Jiaxing is one of the first places to promote urban-rural integration. It has actively implemented the overall urban and rural comprehensive reform in an innovative way, and firmly carried out the multiple planning integration policy and New Urbanization programs. The Province has attached importance to delicate planning, fine construction and systematical management, and actively yet prudently promote the comprehensive improvement of rural land. At the same time, it is committed to speeding up the equalization of public services between urban and rural areas and the process of balancing of incomes between urban and rural residents.
In order to further shape the Jiaxing city brand, enhance and spread the Jiaxing’ city characteristics of Jiaxing’s “Red Boat” spirit, internationalization, canal complex and Jiangnan charms, inherit the Jiaxing urban culture, and enhance people’s cohesion and sense of belonging, the Jiaxing Municipal People’s Government and Young Bird Plan, an international competition brand, jointly launch the Jiaxing City Logo System Design Competition 2020. The competition is calling for entries for Jiaxing city logo system, aiming at attracting global attention to help Jiaxing become an international cultural city of Jiangnan Water Village.
There are four starring juries in Jiaxing City Logo System Design Competition 2020：
Jiaxing city logo system design competition 2020 requires as follows:
1. The drawings of Jiaxing city logo (bilingual version in both horizontal and vertical ways)
2. The VI application system of Jiaxing city logo (including applications of office supplies, clothing, badges, umbrellas and other derivatives, advertising boards, and window display)
1. The work must reflect the Jiaxing city’s spirit and the image;
2. The work shall fully convey the historical and cultural essence of Jiaxing city and reflect the city’s characteristics of “Red Boat” spirit, internationalization, canal complex and Jiangnan charms;
3. The work shall be artistic, innovative and in international style, and it shall be easy to spread and extend;
4. The work shall be highly distinctive and highly recognizable, with strong visual appeal.
1. A scheme shall be presented in two A2 sheets in a clear, vertical way and in readable format (with a 10mm page margin) and include following parts:
-Descriptive text within 300 words (except notes);
-Registration No. shall be put in the upper right corner of the sheets, in Arial 20pt font;
-The drawings should include the city logo and the VI visual recognition system application of the logo (in JPEG format, with a resolution no less than 72dpi, and notes of main color and auxiliary color codes in CMYK).
2. A maximum of three A2 sheets in JPG format (no larger than 10MB for each) can be submitted;
3. A scheme title shall be named; the scheme shall be saved in the “registration No. – scheme title – sheet No.1/No.2” format;
4. A scheme shall be submitted in English or Chinese;
5. A scheme must not include ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION (Name, Organization,School, etc.) that may give away your identity;
6. Please do not compress your files；
7. The cover must be submitted online which should be a rendering of your design work; it must be uploaded in the size of 1024×768 pixels, 72 dpi, less than 2MB.

1. This competition is open to professional designers and students of all ages with industry-specific background or design enthusiasts across the world;

1. Statement of Originality
All submissions must be original, and each Entrant shall ensure that his/her entry does not infringe any third party’s rights, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and so on. Otherwise, the Entrant will be disqualified from the competition, and the organizer will withdraw all the sponsorship money and materials and reserve the right to investigate and affix legal liability of infringement. All damages and losses arising therefrom shall be borne by the Entrant; and all the direct and indirect damages (including but not limited to attorney fees, legal fees, costs of preservation, appraisal costs, notarial fees, and so on) suffered by the organizer shall be compensated by the Entrant.

By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to publicly display the works, and accepts the online selection process.
