前言
Do you photograph things that most people overlook or will never get the chance to see? Do you notice the way paint peels on a wall or mud cracks on the edge of a river? Do you spend an uncomfortable amount of time laying on the ground trying to photograph a beetle or a wild orchid from the best angle? Do you spend days searching for some unusual wildlife behaviour or hours waiting for the perfect light to capture nature’s beauty. Or perhaps you spend afternoons endlessly adjusting tiny details to get the perfect shot in the studio, or spend all night staring down a microscope.
If you do any of these things, and you’d like to show the astonishing things that you have photographed to the people that matter, this is the contest for you.

The Competition is open to all professional and amateur photographers of any nationality.

The Competition closes on July 9th 2023 at 11:59PM BST (‘the Closing Date’), after which you will no longer be able to pay for entry. Images for entry can continue to be sent to CUPOTY for another 7 days after this deadline.

All images entered in the Competition should be close-up, macro or taken with a microscope. The final decision as to whether an image fits this requirement will be down to the Judges. Guidance is provided in the FAQ but if you are unsure, please email a low-res image to hello@cupoty.com before entering.
There is no time limit to when the images were taken, pictures may be entered from any year.
Any type of camera may be used to capture an image for the Competition, including a mobile phone. Images for the Micro category may use any type of light microscope or objective on a lens and employ any technique.
Any creative technique may be used so long as it is stated in the caption of the original submission or in the information we request for shortlisted entries. Black and white, tinted, HDR, square, stitched panoramic, focus stacked and multi-exposed photographs are all acceptable. Diptychs, triptychs and polyptychs will be accepted if they are submitted as a single image.
The image must start from a photograph, but any kind of editing and adjustments are allowed. The photographer must truthfully declare the extent of any post-processing techniques or digital manipulation used and cannot claim a subject to be unmanipulated if it has been.

A panel of photography experts (‘the Jury’) will assess the entries and a shortlist will be announced following the Closing Date.
CUPOTY reserves the right to move any image into a different category at any time during the Competition or judging.
All entrants will be notified by email when the shortlist is to be announced.
Shortlisted photographers will have 14 days to supply a high-resolution version of the shortlisted image to the Organisers if requested. The file must match the colour and cropping of the low-resolution JPEG originally submitted at entry. Detailed captions and technical information must also be supplied if requested to assist with media coverage, use in The Top 100 gallery and for inclusion in the CUPOTY 5 book. The Organisers may also request the original Raw or unedited file to check the degree of post-processing and manipulation; and if required, any other images before or after the photograph was taken.
Failure to produce a high-resolution file within 14-days of the request could result in disqualification. Should you be unable to supply the information by the cut-off point but contact CUPOTY to let the Organisers know within the 14-day period, CUPOTY reserves the right to grant an additional time period to the entrant based on the specific circumstances. Any extension is at the sole discretion of CUPOTY.
CUPOTY cannot be held responsible for emails that do not arrive due to the entrant’s email security settings or restrictions placed by their Internet service provider. Adding enter@cupoty.com, tracy@cupoty.com and dan@cupoty.com to your email contacts should stop this from happening.
The decision of the Jury is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
In the extremely unlikely event of entries in any category falling below the standard required by CUPOTY and the Jury, CUPOTY reserves the right not to award prizes.
The winners will be notified by email and publicly announced after the Competition has closed and the judging process is complete.

The overall winner (aged 18 or over on July 9th 2023), chosen from the 10 category winners, will win £2,500, a trophy and be named Close-up Photographer of the Year.
The winner (aged 18 or over on July 9th 2023) of each category, except for the overall winner, will win £250.
The winner of Young CUPOTY (aged 17 or under on July 9th 2023) will win a SIGMA 105mm F2.8 DG DN MACRO | Art. They will also be awarded a trophy and be named Young Close-up Photographer of the Year.
CUPOTY may publish a book and stage an exhibition of the competition entries, but this will be executed at the discretion of CUPOTY.
