The Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong and Macao invites all primary school and secondary school students to showcase their creativity through their Canadian-themed drawings.

The first-place winning designs will be used as the greeting card covers of the Consulate General of Canada and may be used for other public affairs projects.

This Contest is not associated with Canada Day, but with a focus on the bilateral relations between Canada and Hong Kong/Macao.

Eligibility

The Contest is open to all primary school and secondary school students in Hong Kong and Macao, including international school students.

Each student can submit one entry only. No caption required.

Students can enter in one of two (2) categories:

  • Category 1:Primary 1-6 / Grade 1-6
  • Category 2:Secondary 1-6 / Grade 7-12

Each original artwork must be:

  • in colour, previously unpublished and free of copyright restrictions
  • presented on a white paper in A4 size (210 x 297 mm) or A3 size (297 x 420 mm), in either portrait or landscape orientation
  • presented in either traditional or digital format:
    • Traditional: use colored pencil, crayon, felt tip marker pen, oil paint, watercolor, etc.
    • Digital: with a resolution of 300 dpi or higher
  • presented in 2D design format only (i.e.: using glitter materials is not permitted)

Judging

All eligible entries will be judged by representatives of the Consulate General of Canada based on adherence to the theme, creativity, originality and aesthetics.

Winners of each category will receive the following awards:

1st place

  • Award certificate
  • Canadian Books offered by Bookazine (HK$600)
  • Dining Voucher offered by Café Crêpe (HK$700)
  • Shopping Voucher offered by Herschel Supply Co. (HK$700)

2nd place

  • Award certificate
  • Canadian Books offered by Bookazine (HK$400)
  • Dining Voucher offered by Café Crêpe (HK$400)
  • Shopping Voucher offered by Herschel Supply Co. (HK$500)

3rd place

  • Award certificate
  • Canadian Books offered by Bookazine (HK$250)
  • Dining Voucher offered by Café Crêpe (HK$200)
  • Shopping Voucher offered by Herschel Supply Co. (HK$300)

Honorable mentions (up to 10)

  • Award certificate

Special award for schools

  • Most Active Participation Award Certificate (The school with the most submissions will win the award certificate.)

The designs of the 1stplace winners will be used as the covers for the official greeting cards (printed and electronic) of the Consulate General of Canada.

The top three (3) winning designs of both categories will be uploaded to an online album created on the Consulate General of Canada’s Facebook Page to allow the public to download and use as e-cards.

All winning designs may be featured in other public affairs projects executed by the Consulate General of Canada.

Submission

All contestants must submit entries through their schools.No individual entry and no electronic submission will be accepted.

A valid entry consists of:

  • an original artwork, with the contestant’s name, class, category entered and the school name on the back of paper;
  • an entry form(PDF version) completed by the contestant’s teacher; and
  • a consent form(PDF version) completed by the contestant’s parent, legal guardian, or other authorized person or organization with custody rights, access rights or parental authority over the contestant.

* Entries submitted without any of the above documents will notbe considered.

For both traditional and printed digital artworks

Submit by hand or post (do not fold), to the office of the Consulate General of Canadain Hong Kong and Macao by 17:30, May 29, 2023 (HKT). All mailed entries must be received by the above deadline.

For digital artworks

Please keep the original digital files. Selected winners who submit digital artworks may be requested to provide the original digital files for producing greetings cards.

Rules and conditions

  • Entries will be declared invalidif:
    • they are not submitted through participants’ schools. No individual entry and no electronic submission will be accepted.
    • the student’s name, class, category entered and the school name are not indicated on the back of the artwork.
    • they are late, illegible, incomplete, irregular, forged, garbled or reproduced.
    • any third party trademarks, brands and/or logos such as sports team logos, businesses, restaurants or coffee chains, etc. are used or displayed in any part of the submitted artwork, obviously or subliminally.
    • they negatively depict another person, nation, country, ethnicity, race, religion, age, sex, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
    • they contain content deemed offensive or inappropriate including but not limited to nudity, vulgarity or violence.
  • While contestants retain the copyright to their submitted artworks, by entering the Canada-Hong Kong/Canada-Macao Drawing Contest 2023, they grant the Consulate General of Canada the rights to modify, reproduce, publish, distribute, exhibit and use the entries in any and all media or distribution methods.
  • All submitted entries become the property of the Consulate General of Canada, and will not be returned to the contestants.
  • Participants should make a copy of their entry if they wish to keep a copy.
  • All personal information provided by contestants will only be used by the Consulate General of Canada for the purpose of administering the Canada-Hong Kong/Canada-Macao Drawing Contest 2023.
  • The Canada-Hong Kong/Canada-Macao Drawing Contest 2023 is not open to employees of the Consulate General of Canada, nor their families.
  • Results will be announced on the Consulate General of Canada’s Facebook Pageby July 1, 2023.
  • Prizes will be distributed to the winners by July 31, 2023.
  • Prizes are subject to the prize suppliers’ terms and conditions.
  • The Consulate General of Canada reserves the right to exclude from its Facebook, Instagram or Twitter page any post that does not comply with these rules and regulations or for any reason that the Consulate General of Canada or its partners determines in its sole discretion without notice at any time.
  • The Consulate General of Canada reserves the right to change the contest rules, prizes and other arrangements without prior notice. In the case of any dispute, the Consulate General of Canada reserves the right of final decision.
