2023 ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

– Theme of the Year 2023 : Stand
The sugar industry is an important traditional industry in Taiwan. During the Japanese colonization, the Ciaotou Sugar Refinery was designated as the world's first new sugar factory in 1900. At the end of 2022, the bronze statue of Teijiro Yamamoto created by Taiwanese sculptor, Huang Tu Shui, (Huang Tu Shui) returned from Japan to the Ciaotou Sugar Refinery. The 120-year-old bronze statue of Guanyin was restored and finally shown to the public again.
The theme of this year's solicitation is "#Stand", which hopes that after the international epidemic, arts and culture will urgently need to be revived. And the return of these cultural assets not only affects the century-long friendship between Japan and Taiwan, but also has a high representativeness for the reconstruction of historical scenes and the art history. To enrich our own culture, we might collect the energy through artistic creation and regain the coordinates or position of art in the post-pandemic era.

「2023橋仔頭糖廠藝術村藝術家進駐」徵件開跑囉
｜徵選主題｜立 / Stand
糖業是臺灣傳統重要產業，日本殖民時代從1900年開始將橋仔頭糖廠擘劃成為世界第一座新式製糖工場，山本悌二郎就是臺灣新式糖業的奠基者。2022年年末，由台灣雕塑家黃土水為其創作的山本悌二郎銅像從日本再回歸於橋仔頭糖廠；佇立120年的青銅聖觀音像，也重新修復展現在眾人面前。

今年度的徵件主題「#立」，是希望國際疫情過後，藝文亟待振興，而這些文化資產的回歸，除了牽動日臺二國長達百年的情誼，也對於再造歷史現場、重建藝術史，有高度代表性。透過藝術創作的能量，厚實自己的文化，期許在後疫情時代重新找回藝術所站立的座標或位置。
