MISSION STATEMENT
The International Design Awards (IDA) exists to recognize, celebrate and promote exceptional design visionaries and discover emerging talent in Architecture, Interior, Product, Graphic and Fashion Design worldwide. The Farmani Group founded the IDA as the design sibling of the Annual Lucie Awards for Photography, which has emerged as one of the world’s most prestigious photography awards.
CREDITS
The IDA trophy was designed by Ron Taft. The IDA logo, the 2007 and 2008 books were designed by Chen Design Associates, San Francisco. The original IDA concept was established by Hossein Farmani and Reto Eberle with the assistance of Jamie Waguh and Jules Janssen.
ENTRY TIPS
We created a list of tips to guide you through the submission process, step-by-step, to ensure that your design entry is strong and more likely to make a positive impact.
- Complete your company profile. Our system provides an auto-generated invoice, so please add your company address, e-mail, VAT number, etc. Also, share your company information and any previous awards that you have won!
- Because we have an international jury panel, the project description, credits and other information should be written in English language.
- Don’t forget to also upload a PDF file with any additional project details, 3D drawings, product specifications, business plans, or any other information you may feel important to share with the Jury. The PDF will be ONLY viewed by the jury and not the public.
- Credit all of the designers who participated in the project. You can also add photographer and model credits as appropriate.
- Each design discipline has numerous sub-categories for you to choose from, and many entries could fit into multiple sub-categories. To increase your chance of winning we recommend to enter the projects in more than one sub-category. A discount is offered when entering same designs in additional sub-categories.
If you have additional questions about the submission process, please read through the FAQ at:

JUDGING CRITERIA
The evaluation process for entries to the IDA is based on various judging criteria which are constantly adapted to new creative, technical, social, economic and ecological requirements. These criteria are not comprehensive and not all criteria are applicable to each design. They simply provide an orientation framework and basis for judging, which is complemented by each individual juror’s expertise and professional background.
Each member of the Juryis passionately committed to providing a fair and unbiased evaluation of all entries.
The judging criteria include the following:
- Innovation — does the design stand out, provide something new to the market or supplement/improve an existing product or service?
- Aesthetics — artistic value of the form, shape, color, texture, finishing, engineering, material used, etc.
- Functionality — ease of use, safety and maintenance.
- Ergonomics — the overall interaction with the user.
- Durability — the quality and longevity of the design.
- Impact — the benefits delivered to the user and/or society by the design.
- Utility — does the design meet the intended purpose and needs of the user?
- Ecological compatibility — potential environmental and/or ecological impact
- Feasibility of production — how realistic is it, technically and economically, to bring this design to production and broad-scale use
- Emotional quotient (EQ) — in addition to fulfilling its practical purpose, will the design create a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction?
Scoring
The International Design Awards use a scoring scale between 1-10 points. Jury members are assigned categories based on their specific backgrounds and design expertise. All projects are viewed and judged randomly and anonymously to ensure unbiased and fair judging.
The IDA Jury
The IDA Jury are a selected panel of industry experts from each of the five IDA disciplines – Architecture, Fashion, Interior, Product and Graphic Design. Their talents and contributions to their respective fields are genuinely aspirational and all jurors have at least fifteen years experience and are in leading or Founder positions within their organisations.
PROMOTING WINNERS WORK
An industry-recognised award serves as an independent endorsement of your company’s quality. Winning the International Design Award is an unbeatable competitive advantage for a company and, more importantly, it’s an affirmation that potential customers are more likely to trust than any marketing material you could produce. We know that social proof is one of the most influential factors in a consumer’s decision making.
Consumer and Professional (third party) reviews are nearly 12 times more trusted than descriptions, and winning the International Design Awards is like the ultimate review or testimonial.
Here are a few ideas how you can maximize your win and make it work to the benefit of your design and/or brand.
PREPARE A MEDIA PLAN
Issue a media release and send it to your local media and/or communication agency. IDA publishes the official winner media release on the IDA website and this is a good template to start with.
Add “IDA Award-Winning” to all of your company/product descriptions. Once you win an IDA award, from that day on you have the right to call yourselves an “award-winning” company or designer. Make sure people know that your work has been distinguished in this way.
MAKE YOUR IDA WIN A CENTREPIECE OF YOUR MARKETING PLAN
Print your IDA Certificate and IDA Winner Badge and display them at your office/company.
Share the IDA Certificate and IDA Winner Badge with your online community by posting them on your website, social media and on all direct marketing.
Add the IDA Winner Badge on brochures, printed media, packaging, and everything else that carries your company/brand/design logo. This is a fantastic marketing differentiation opportunity.
Add the IDA Winner Badge to your email signature with a simple statement that says “IDA Winner of the (year) (award name). Your email signature is seen daily by scores of people who may not know about your award.
Make sure you own at least one copy of the IDA Annual Book, in which your winning design will be featured amongst other exceptionally talented designers, and make sure it’s visibly displayed in your
UTILIZE ALL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS TO PROMOTE THE WINNING OF THE AWARD.
Share your IDA award-winning project on your social media. Make sure you have a well-written post that highlights your achievements and which can potentially be shared by your clients, partners, colleagues and friends. Don’t forget to tag our social media profiles (@idesignawards) and use the #IDA when spreading the news – we will be happy to share your post as well!

Consider an advertisement in a magazine or newspaper. It’s common practise for companies to take out an advertisement after they’ve won an award to draw attention to their achievement and even to congratulate fellow winners.
ADD IT TO YOUR DISTRIBUTION PACKAGE
Add the IDA Winner Badge to your design page and/or product display. This is a way to highlight your win to your retailers/agents, and they in turn will display this signage to the public which will drive interest.
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Celebrate the achievement with everyone on your team (employees, customers and business partners) —it’s a fantastic boost to morale. And have your sales & marketing team communicate the win to all their contacts/clients as well.
Highlight the award on your career page and/or company LinkedIn account.
NETWORK & JOIN THE PARTY
Join the IDA Winners’ Event. As an award winner, you will be invited to the prestigious bi-annual winners event that will be hosted in Los Angeles or New York. Attending this get-together of designers, jury, and media is a great opportunity to share your work, meet other designers and build your peer network. It is also another great experience to share through your social media and website and will bring even more attention to your IDA Award.
